ACTION NEEDED: Support SB 14 and SB 19

I am pleased to tell you that SB 14 and SB 19, two important bills that failed last year were brought back to the legislature this year, and have made it to the governor’s desk, where they are awaiting signature!

My bill, SB 19, will establish the Fentanyl Misuse and Overdose Prevention Task Force so we can assemble experts and stakeholders to identify the right way to combat the fentanyl epidemic that is sweeping our state. Fentanyl overdoses are currently among the leading causes of death for our young people.

SB 14, by Senator Grove, which I am a co-author on, reclassifies sex trafficking of a minor as a serious felony, a strike offense under California law. It will hold repeat traffickers accountable for the horrors they inflict upon their victims.

We know how important these issues are to California families and residents, and we have continued to fight against a dismissive supermajority party that ignored these problems during the last legislative session. (See AB 1665 and AB 1673.)

These two bills are part of a Republican-led effort to protect our children and take action against criminals. We have been supported by our constituents in the 32nd District as well as citizens throughout the entire state, and it is thanks to YOU and your tenacity that the governor and the supermajority HAD TO take notice and take action.

THANK YOU for signing the petitions, sending emails, and calling legislators.

But we are not done. Please make your opinion known by calling or contacting the governor’s office and requesting his signature on both pieces of legislation.
