Sacramento, CA – Senator Kelly Seyarto (R-Murrieta) is pleased to share that applications are now open for the prestigious California Senate Fellows Program.
This highly regarded program gives college graduates the opportunity to work full-time as professional staff members in the California State Senate at the State Capitol in Sacramento. The 11-month fellowship begins each October and combines hands-on legislative experience with graduate-level academic seminars led by legislators, journalists, and state officials.
The program begins with a seven-week orientation to provide a strong foundation in state government, legislative processes, and key policy issues. Fellows are then placed in the office of a Senator or on committee staff, where they take on meaningful responsibilities such as:
- Conducting policy research
- Drafting and analyzing legislation
- Responding to constituent inquiries
- Preparing speeches
- Representing their Senator in meetings
“The Senate Fellows Program offers a firsthand look at how our state government operates,” said Senator Seyarto. “It’s an incredible opportunity for young professionals to learn, contribute, and see their ideas take shape in real policy. I’ve been fortunate to host several fellows over the years, some of whom have gone on to join my permanent staff. I encourage anyone interested in public service to apply.”
Fellows receive a monthly stipend, health, vision, and dental benefits, and are enrolled as graduate students in Public Policy and Administration at California State University, Sacramento with no tuition cost to participants.
Applicants must be at least 20 years old and hold a bachelor’s degree by September 1, 2026. Applicants with advanced degrees or professional experience are also encouraged to apply. No specific major is required.
Application Deadline: December 8, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. (PST).
