Sacramento, CA – Senator Kelly Seyarto (R-Murrieta) is proud to announce Backcountry Communities Thriving as the 32nd District Nonprofit of the Year.
Backcountry Communities Thriving is located in Julian, a rural community in San Diego County. Founded by Hilary Ward and Kim Simas in 2021, they focus on advocating and providing services in a challenging rural environment, pushing for all to achieve their potential. Their partnerships with other organizations such as food banks, health and educational organizations, and social services, aim to keep the community healthy and thriving. Some of their recent accomplishments include annual scholarships for high school seniors, new fitness equipment installation at Julian High School, support to the senior community, and the creation of a bimonthly printed publication for local residents.
Co-founder Hilary Ward remarked: “Being named the District 32 Nonprofit of the Year is a profound honor for our small team serving the rural backcountry. It affirms the hard work, heart, and commitment we pour into our community every day. This award is not just a recognition of our efforts, it’s also a celebration of the resilience, strength, and spirit of the people we serve.”
“Backcountry Communities Thriving represents the very best of the 32nd District,” said Senator Kelly Seyarto. “They recognize the unique challenges rural communities face and respond with action, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to service. Their impact in Julian and the surrounding areas is a testament to what can be achieved when neighbors step up for one another. I’m proud to honor an organization so deeply rooted in community and driven by purpose.”
