Celebrating Constitution Week

This year, I was pleased to introduce SR 68, a resolution that recognizes September 17-23, 2024, as Constitution Week in California.

This celebration, first created by the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) in 1956, commemorates America's most important document.

September 17, 2024, marks the 237th anniversary of the framing of the Constitution at the Constitutional Convention in 1787.

The Constitution is our foundation, our heritage. It established the framework of our government and it preserves and protects our unalienable rights, the freedoms “We the People” are blessed to enjoy as Americans.

We need to continue the open and civil discourse the founding fathers had the forethought to engage in when writing the Constitution for the betterment of California and our country.

This week, please take a moment to reflect on the importance of this document by reading it, teaching your children about it, and honoring and remembering those who have valiantly defended it.

My oath to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution is a responsibility that I take seriously. I hope you will join me, other elected officials, communities, and citizens across this country as we celebrate and honor Constitution Week.
