We have all been affected by the skyrocketing natural gas prices.
According to a recent article by the Wall Street Journal, California’s natural gas prices are up to five times higher than the national average. Rates have gone up as much as 128% since December.
These increases are unsustainable and unacceptable.
Recently, my California Senate Republican colleagues and I sent a letter to the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) urging them to disperse a state credit immediately to give millions of customers some much-needed economic relief on their electricity and natural gas bills.
The CPUC has responded and will be holding a public hearing on February 7 to address this credit as well as to discuss the cause of these high natural gas prices and explore long-term solutions.
The public is welcome to participate. Instructions on how to submit testimony or comment can be found HERE.
If approved, these rebates will help offset these outrageous cost increases and reduce the financial burden on California’s families.
Additionally, SoCalGas has announced that market prices have already started to drop, and “the price of natural gas for its customers would be down 68% for February compared with January.”
As a reminder, there are financial assistance programs available to natural gas consumers to receive a discount on their monthly bills. For more information on these programs, please contact the SoCal Gas Company at 1-800-427-2200.
Consumers may also qualify for the SoCal Gas Company's Gas Assistance Fund. One-time grants of up to $100 are available to qualified recipients.

As your Senator, I will continue to fight for transparent and responsible energy use and pricing for Californians.
