Twenty-five years ago, on September 11, 2001, our nation was forever changed.
For those of us who lived through that day, the memories remain vivid. We remember where we were, the uncertainty we felt, and the heartbreaking images from New York City, the Pentagon, and Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
Today, we honor the nearly 3,000 lives lost and the first responders and ordinary Americans who demonstrated extraordinary courage in the face of unimaginable tragedy. We also remember the many who answered the call to serve our country in the years that followed.
A quarter-century has now passed, and an entire generation has grown up knowing September 11 only through the stories of others. It is our responsibility to continue sharing those stories and honoring the lives, courage, and sacrifice of that day.
We remember. We honor. And we will never forget.
