Senator Seyarto Bill Ensuring Cal Grant Access to Military Dependents Signed into Law

I am proud to announce that SB 67 has been signed into law.

SB 67 ensures that dependents of California’s active-duty military members can access Cal Grants even if they graduated from a high school outside of California due to a parent’s military assignment.

The Cal Grant program provides critical financial support to help students cover the cost of college. Under previous law, military dependents who graduated from out-of-state schools were not eligible for these benefits, even when their families maintained California as their legal residence.

SB 67 corrects this oversight, guaranteeing that students from military families remain eligible for Cal Grants as long as all other program requirements are met.

Our military families make tremendous sacrifices to serve our nation, often spending years stationed far from home. SB 67 recognizes their continued connection to California and ensures their children have the same educational opportunities as any other California student.

SB 67 received unanimous bipartisan support in the Legislature.

Thank you for this opportunity to be of service.
