Senator Seyarto Selects Michelle's Place as the 32nd Senate District Nonprofit of the Year

SACRAMENTO, CA – Senator Kelly Seyarto (R-Murrieta) is proud to announce Michelle’s Place Cancer Resource Center as the 2026 32nd Senate District Nonprofit of the Year.

Michelle’s Place is a full-service cancer resource center located in Temecula that serves more than 6,000 cancer patients and their families annually. Founded in 2001 as the final wish of Michelle Watson, a 26-year-old breast cancer patient, the organization was created to ensure that individuals facing cancer would have access to the support, resources, and information she found difficult to obtain during her own journey.

Originally focused on breast cancer support, Michelle’s Place expanded its services in 2018 to serve individuals facing all types of cancer. Today, the organization operates the region’s comprehensive cancer resource center, providing free services that include patient navigation, support groups, counseling, wigs and prostheses, wellness programs, educational seminars, transportation assistance, and temporary financial support for those undergoing treatment. By providing resources that address both the practical and emotional challenges of a cancer diagnosis, the organization serves as a vital bridge between medical treatment and community care.

“Michelle’s Place has become a lifeline for thousands of individuals and families facing one of life’s most difficult challenges,” said Senator Seyarto. “Their commitment to ensuring that no one faces cancer alone has made a profound difference throughout Southwest Riverside County and beyond. Through compassion, education, and support, Michelle’s Place embodies the spirit of service and community that makes the 32nd Senate District so special. I am honored to recognize them as our 2026 Nonprofit of the Year.”

“We are deeply honored to be recognized as the 2026 32nd Senate District Nonprofit of the Year by Senator Kelly Seyarto,” said Executive Director, Kim Gerrish, CFRE. “This award belongs to our dedicated staff, volunteers, donors, and community partners who help us provide free services to thousands of families each year. Together, we are creating a community where individuals impacted by cancer can find support, connection, and hope."

Senator Seyarto formally honored Michelle’s Place during the California Association of Nonprofits’ annual awards luncheon in Sacramento on May 20, 2026.
